About osteopathy

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions, with its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused by injury and disease. Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension, enhance blood and nerve supply to tissues and support your body's own healing mechanisms.

How it helps

Relief for the problems everyday life creates

  • —Low back pain
  • —Neck pain
  • —Headaches and migraines
  • —Sciatica
  • —Frozen shoulder
  • —Tight muscles
  • —Joint pain
  • —Sports injuries
  • —Symptoms arising from pregnancy
  • —Rheumatic and arthritic conditions

Will treatment hurt?

An osteopath uses many different treatment approaches. Some are relaxing and therapeutic, while stronger techniques can feel uncomfortable. Only treatments considered appropriate for your case will be used. It is perfectly normal to feel more sore the following day: this is the body's natural healing response, and it usually results in an improvement over the following days.

Good to know

What to expect from your consultation

Your initial consultation takes around an hour and begins with a 10–15 minute case history about the presenting complaint, allowing the osteopath to gather all the relevant information and to check that treatment is appropriate for you. A thorough examination follows — you may be asked to remove some items of clothing so the area can be observed closely for swelling, bruising, inflammation and posture. The osteopath will then explain their findings in plain terms and agree a treatment plan with you before starting.

Wayne Beck

M.Ost D.O

Wayne graduated in 2015 with a master's degree in Osteopathy from the European School of Osteopathy and is a registered member of both the British Institution of Osteopathy and the General Osteopathic Council in the UK.

He has used the principles of osteopathy to help patients with many differing complaints over the years, including low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, joint stiffness, headaches, muscle strains and osteoarthritis. His practice draws on strong structural techniques including manipulations, joint mobilisations and articulation, deep and soft tissue work and muscle energy technique, as well as the classical whole-body approach to osteopathy.

Wayne has lived in Seaford for most of his life. In his spare time he hikes the South Downs Way and the Seven Sisters cliffs, lifts weights, paddle boards, sea swims at Seaford beach and rides his mountain bike through Friston Forest.
